Picketts RV Park is located in Alamo, Nevada, right off the Great Basin Highway. Lakes and marshlands provide a perfect environment for many species of birds, including ducks and geese for viewing in a wildlife preserve nearby. A new visitors center at the wildlife refuge opened in January 2015. The whole area is a photographers’ dream!! Birdwatchers during migratory seasons will be in heaven! The pastoral setting of the valley is home to cattle and horse ranches. Nearby you can find fishing in Hiko, and explore the extraterrestrial highway to Rachael, Area 51 and geocaching.
The Mt Irish Wilderness is located 23 miles from Alamo, NV on Highway 375, southwest of Hiko in the Timpahute-Pahranagat range. The range and canyons of Mount Irish Wilderness project out into the long sloping bajadas providing important habitat for desert bighorn sheep, pronghorn, and variety of bird species. Recreation includes opportunities for hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, photography, nature study, and hunting. The Mount Irish Archaeological Site is on the northern boundary of the wilderness area and the region itself is filled with significant cultural resources.
